Regenerating from Nature Deficit Disorder
Free Forest Therapy Information Session at Herban Wellness
“Nature deficit disorder” is a term coined by Richard Louv to describe the growing disconnect between those who spend less time in nature and the associated consequences. The human cost of spending less time outdoors severely impacts our health.
Yasei Shinrin Yoku (or Wild Forest Bathing) was developed in the 80’s in Japan where nature deficit disorder had been on the rise, just like most other developed countries.
Forest therapy blends the practice of wildcrafting with a profound connection to the living forest, uniting the healing abilities presented by the natural world with spiritual and environmental responsibility. Forest therapy is the art of immersing yourself in nature to rejuvenate your mind, body, energy and to activate nature’s healing benefits. Yasei values that our health, sense of purpose, and overall well-being are directly related to the efforts we do to support the forest – the practice considers that we and the forest are “one” and that through this presence a genuine, harmonious energy balance that mutually enhances both the individual and the natural world exists. If we invest in the health and growth of the forest then the forest will invest in us. You can consider the medium of exchange being a “life-force”.
Exposure to the life force of trees and plants helps improve memory, cognitive abilities, task initiation, as well as other benefits. Join Lindsey for a discussion around nature deficit disorder, the sentient forest, and regeneration of both the forest and yourself.
About the Facilitator
Lindsey bridges the connection between humans and the forest and the natural world and considers them to be sentient. Lindsey seeks to rewild the human experience and to introduce people to the forest, plant and tree spirits, and other wild natural environments in a unique way. As a Yasei Shinrin Yoku (Forest Therapy) Guide, she incorporates components of medical qigong, herbs, mindfulness, and coaching into her walks. Connection to nature is one of the components to Vital Health and Lindsey seeks to ensure that is attainable by all. Lindsey is a Clinical Holistic Herbalist, Integrative Wellness & Life Coach, and Yasei Shinrin-Yoku Guide who seeks to empower you to make strides towards balance in your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual systems. Lindsey is excited and grateful to serve as a guide, supporting you on your healing journey – Whether that is into the forest…or beyond!
